Field of Quality

What functions, methods and tools are there?

When two people talk about quality management, they rarely talk about the same thing. As in many areas, there are different ideas about professional fields, tasks, responsibilities and authorities in quality management. In this article you will learn more about the functions, methods and tools in quality management.

The reason why there is no uniform understanding of the functions in quality management is, on the one hand, because there are no professions to be learned in quality management in the traditional sense with an apprenticeship, vocational school and qualification. On the other hand, the demands and challenges of companies are often so different that there is rarely absolutely the same understanding of the task of quality management.

“In quality management, there are no professions to be learned in the traditional sense with an apprenticeship, vocational school and qualification.”

On the company side, internal and external changes significantly influence the need for quality assurance. Depending on the company or industry, customer satisfaction must be ensured individually and managed in different ways with regard to product and process flows.

Who or which department in a company takes on quality assurance tasks can also differ. The tasks can be bundled in one department or spread across several areas.
For example, if the purchasing department also takes care of the quality assurance of the purchased service, the production department takes care of the product quality of its own products or the management directly takes care of the quality management system. Depending on the size of the company and needs, tasks and responsibilities are bundled into specially created functions.
